Our client, a leading Broadcasting organisation is seeking an experienced Senior MCR Engineer to join their MCR in London. You will be responsible for managing the loading of multiple traffic strands on the Clients fibre and Satellite network alongside ensuring operational stability for the delivery of the Clients channels to viewers.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage Control of the channel Off Air and escalation process with DTH providers
  • Effectively manage Feeds/transmissions via Satellite, Fibre and 3G-4G cellular devises such as TVU making sure the quality is up to Alaraby TV standards
  • Minimize troubleshooting time to the minimum to avoid any failure or delay
  • Identify faults and take immediate preventative action to restore traffic
  • Make sure follows up on all technical or operational issues in the booking system observed during transmissions
  • Escalating technical issues to relevant support unit as well as to external providers
  • Make sure all IPDs and steerable antennas are set up to the required satellites
  • Coordinate effectively with operators in the field to support remote operations via satellite, fibre, and IP networks
  • Ensuring successful delivery of scheduled transmissions resolving any troubleshoot if any crisis occurs to the service

Qualifications and Experience:

Degree in Electronics or other relevant subject

6 years experience in relevant Operations / Support

Demonstrable skills in broadcast equipment and technologies including several or all of the following:

  • SAT farm, IF routing & control system; Downlink and uplink chain
  • SNG and ENG equipment, point-to-point video links and 3G/4G cellular IP streaming from the field
  • Video Routers, Multi viewers and Glue items
  • Talkback; KVM system
  • Comprehensive understanding of a live 24 hour broadcast environment
  • In depth understanding of broadcasting standards including 3G-SDI, HDSDI 1080i, SDI, AES/EBU, MPEG, PAL 625, NTSC 525 and Relevant measurement tools
  • Consciousness of the IT and Broadcast convergence
  • Understanding of Broadcast media server workflows – Ingest – Transcoding – Video Compression
  • IP networks (TCP/IP, FTP, UDP, Streaming and Store and Forward)
  • English Language , Arabic is a plus

As an MCR Technician you will be instrumental in ensuring our Clients channels remain On Air without interruption, using your skills and expertise to minimise loss of service & resolving any instances of equipment failure.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage Control of the channel Off Air and escalation process with DTH providers
  • Effectively receive and record contribution feeds (Live 2way / Tape feed) and Live programs via Satellite, MPLS, CDN, Fibre and 3G-4G cellular devises such as TVU.
  • Make sure the quality of the transmission is up to Alaraby TV standards
  • Minimize troubleshooting time to the minimum to avoid any failure or delay
  • Identify faults and take immediate preventative action to restore traffic
  • Make sure follows up and reports clearly in the booking system on all technical or operational issues observed during transmissions

Our client, a leading Broadcasting organisation is seeking an experienced MCR Operator / Transmission Controller to join their MCR in London. The MCR Operator will work as part of a team receiving live feeds and records feeds via Satellite, MPLS, CDN, Fibre, Q-Lins and 3G/4G devices such as TVU.

Responsibilities of MCR Engineer;

  • Undertake monitoring Control of the channel off air and escalation process with DTH providers
  • Effectively receive and record Feeds (Live 2way / Tape feed) and Live Programs via Satellite, MPLS, CDN, Fibre, Q-links and 3G-4G cellular devises such as TVU
  • Controlling the quality of receiving Feeds
  • Monitor the receiving tape feeds and live programs
  • Use Data-miner in controlling and monitoring all MCR equipment and highlight if any alarm appears in critical devices
  • Pointing the steerable antenna to the required satellites and reduce the action time
  • Add sources/maintain the monitoring system
  • Coordinate effectively with operators in the field to support remote operations via satellite, fibre, and IP networks
  • Identify faults and take immediate preventative action to restore traffic
  • Undertake routine testing, preventative and corrective maintenance of transmission systems and ancillary equipment
  • Report technical issues to Handovers and Ticketing System

Background & Skills from MCR Engineer;

  • Up to date and familiar with MCR Systems/Equipment
  • Experienced in a 24 hour support Master Control Room
  • Good foundation understanding of satellite communication technology including Downlink, Uplinks, L-band Matrix, IRD’s and spectrum Analysers
  • Confident understanding of Broadcasting standards including 3G-SDI, HDSDI 1080i, SDI, AES/EBU, MPEG, PAL 625, NTSC 525 and Relevant measurement tools
  • Good knowledge of Video Compression
  • Good knowledge of Broadcast media server workflows – Ingest – Transcoding
  • IP networks (TCP/IP, FTP, UDP, Streaming and Store and Forward)
  • Understanding of newsroom production systems and procedures

Job Description:

  • Carryout reactive and proactive maintenance on multi-customer, multi technology networks, achieving agreed performance targets
  • Carryout project based on site installation, commissioning and integration activities across multi-customer, multi technology networks achieving agreed performance targets.
  • Work individually, as part of the FSO and wider teams to achieve right first time resolution of work within customer SLA’s without compromising safe working practices
  • Carry out the field related installation, commissioning and integration activities associated with agreed FSO project work
  • Assist in the development and review of FSO processes and procedures with a view to maximise efficiency
  • Keep diligent records and accurately update both internal FSO and Customer systems where necessary.

Experience

  • Must have VF,MBNL & Tef, base station corrective skills
  • Must be located in the appropriate areas/Willing to relocate
  • Must have all certs in date – Including Tower Rescue/Advance Climber (Or willing to complete prior to contract start)
