Job Description:

A Site Design engineer with knowledge of both passive and active side of mobile telecommunication.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for mobile network site review, site solution design & gating and be able to act as an SME on passive and active components to meet customers planned network operations.
Key to the role is the ability to identify effective solutions that best fits the customer requirement in the most cost-effective way.


  • Creation and verification of Design Proposals for mobile network sites based on customer requirements across Passive/ Civil and Active elements.
  • Review of plans, design drawings and other relevant documents for accuracy and adherence to build requirements to include review of Site Survey / PIV documentation.
  • Responsible for selection of H/W & material BOMs to support site build
  • Attend regular technical Gating meetings / solution design review meetings with the customer to define and agree the Site Designs and delivery scenarios.
  • Ensure that Site Designs are compliant with local Health and Safety requirements
  • Act as a Site Design SME in the provision of technical support towards site queries
  • Interface with the different project work streams to ensure efficient handover between milestones
  • Production of technical reporting
  • Deliver results and achieve SLA/KPI performance by focusing on effective and efficient execution of Site Design services.
  • Continually look for opportunities for efficiency & cost saving by driving a culture of cost-awareness & innovation


  • Experience working in Engineering teams on Turn Key RAN rollouts covering the Work Areas of Site Acquisition, Civil / Passive Design & Construction and Site Engineering to support Equipment Installation
  • Site Engineering experience including Site Survey, material specification & Site documentation production
  • Knowledge and experience of relevant OHS & CDM statutory regulations impacting the local market
  • Knowledge of product and procedures within the Work Areas

Clerk of Works for FTTC project

Job Title – Clerk of Works
Job Location – Nationwide (Base would be Saltney, Cheshire)
Job Description:

  • Responsible for acting as a clerk of works walking the job and ensuring a high standard of workmanship on upgrading the cabling capacity between street located PCP and DSLAM cabinets.
  • You will be responsible for monitoring field operatives (direct labour and sub contract) to ensure that all works are completed on time, in full compliance with H&S requirements and that contractual processes, procedures and quality standards are met
    • The work being undertaken by the teams involves:
    • Surveying the street cabinets to ensure space is available for additional cable terminations
    • Surveying ducting to ensure it is not blocked
    • Fitting side pods to street cabinets to increase capacity
    • Pulling in, terminating and testing additional cables between cabinets


  • Previous experience as a Clerk of Works on a similar project
  • Have extensive knowledge of Cabling and Splicing
  • Strong knowledge of Health & Safety procedures & Legislation
  • Must have valid NRSWA certification

Survey Engineer

Survey Engineer – Radio (DAB, FM)
Location: Nationwide / Winchester (2/3 days split)

Comvergent are seeking an experienced Survey Engineer for a large network transformation project with a goal of refreshing transmitter sites.
Responsibilities of Survey Engineer – Radio (DAB, FM);

  • Visit and survey transmitter sites to identify the of DAB and FM Radio Services.
  • Identify connectivity options;
    • Rack locations for network switch and routers
    • Cable routes between network equipment and service equipment
    • Define power requirements
  • Deliver updated CAD drawings to reflect the above
  • Provide technical knowledge to deployment teams

Essential skills & requirements;

  • Experience of performing site surveys or installations in previous roles
  • Strong Cisco router and switch products and producing high level design documents.
  • Experience of power, network equipment and site installations would be desirable
  • Able to travel 2-3 days a week (nationwide, in clusters), then work ideally from the office in Winchester (remote work possible down the line).
  • RF Awareness, Rooftop Access Manual Handling certs would be beneficial

Civils Supervisor

Job Title – Civils Supervisor

Job Location – Chichester, West Sussex

Job Role:

  • To supervise and line manage the civils/cabling/splicing gangs to ensure control and management of the 3rd party civils/cabling sub-contractors, on-site;
  • To meet OHS, construction, build quality, productivity and efficiency targets;
  • To manage any welfare requirements of the civils/cabling/splicing gangs;
  • To liaise with local authorities and residents as appropriate to ensure compliance with local requirements prior to and during any construction;
  • To ensure that the correct liaison with local authorities and residents has taken place and any local requirements are adhered to.
  • To attend any meetings as required, on-site or at the local authorities’ premises;
  • To provide technical expertise and be the single point of contact/escalation on all aspects of fibre build and construction; this includes all civils (including re-in statement), cabling and splicing/testing activities, plus production/completion of associated (as-built) documentation within agreed timescales;
  • To manage and track the build/construction team deliverables, ensuring compliance with OHS, contract obligations, and achievement of SLAs and KPIs;
  • To deliver the agreed monthly site audit documentation and implement any corrective action/continuous improvement plans;
  • To provide regular progress updates of individual jobs to the fibre services teams as required;
  • To be an on-call supervisor (scheduled as part of the agreed rota) to manage any fibre network maintenance call outs to satisfactory resolution. This includes providing regular reports and customer updates.
  • To Liaise with the ASP and agree a programme of work to meet customer deadlines


  • Detailed experience of UK fixed and cable operator network build guidelines and ways of working, including GPON, FTTX and HFC networks;
  • An in-depth knowledge of The New Roads and Street Works Act, 1991 (NRSWA), and its ancillary legislation and the various Codes of Practice;
  • Accreditation to NRWSA Supervisor level; Have a first aid qualification and ideally trained to Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) level;
  • An in-depth knowledge of HSG47 “Avoiding danger from underground services”, together with all OHS requirements and applicable laws;
  • Good network within the UK fibre services industry – both suppliers and customers;
  • Excellent understanding of fibre network architectures and network topologies;
  • 5+ years of network build experience in the UK fibre services industry or civils industry;
  • Strong knowledge of available passive components applicable to FTTx networks and FTTx deployment technologies;
  • Extensive experience with civil engineering and telecoms deployment, including Detailed Design and As-Built Engineering;
  • Extensive experience conducting quality control of fibre engineering build/construction;
  • Experience of managing OSP civils operatives and cabling/splicing engineers;
  • Solid understanding of OSP network build key drivers affecting cost in OSP network roll outs;
  • Analytical and demonstrates ability to solve build/construction and/or operations related problems;
  • Profound understanding of customer challenges within fibre network domain;
  • Ability to work as part of an on-call rota, including night work as part of a 24×7 SLA;
  • Ability to gain confidence with the customer;
  • Demonstrates active listening skills with customers and internal teams;

  • Responsibility for the reactive and proactive maintenance of Multi-Customer, Multi Technology Managed Service Contracts within agreed SLA’s.
  • To grow and enhance Multi-Customer, Multi Technology Networks
